Development
Want to help the OKA develop korfball in the area? There are several ways you can get involved...
Individual Development
All of the clubs in the OKA train on a weekly basis with the aim of improving the standard of play of all of their members. Most clubs have two or more teams so there will be a chance for both new players and those with more experience to develop. The clubs compete in the local OKA league with some playing in WRL.
The OKA also co-ordinates an area team to compete in the EKA’s Inter Area Cup. This competition allows players to compete at a higher level than in their own local league, and against different competition. The tournament is normally held over one or two days during the season. The OKA holds training sessions in the lead up to the tournament for anyone who wishes to be considered for the team. Further details of training sessions will be announced when dates and times are known and all registered OKA players are eligible to play.
Club Development
The OKA has as its core develpoment an increase in the number of clubs playing korfball in the county. We have increased from two clubs in 1999 to thirteen today, and we want to increase it further in the future. If you are interested in getting involved in the setting-up of new clubs, or the running of those which already exist, then there's always work to be done. Contact us if you've got a brilliant idea, or for details of what projects currently require people to help out.
Youth Korfball
The OKA committee are keen to further develop junior korfball in schools in Oxfordshire and the surrounding area, so if you are interested in starting or helping with a school team, or know someone who is, get in touch. Several schools have already tried out Korfball and there have been some inter-school matches.
Referee Development
As with any sport, games cannot take place without a referee. All clubs are asked to provide referees for the OKA League and support is provided for anyone who would like to train as referee or gain more experience. If you would like to get involved in this vital side of the sport, speak to existing refs at your club and maybe have a go during training. Annual sessions are held before the start of the league season for anyone who will be refereeing to discuss changes to the rules and provide assistance and advice in the ways of the ref! As always, feel free to get in touch if you want to find out how you can get involved.
